Department of Crop Management

This department encompasses the units like Agronomy, Agricultural Meteorology, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering and Forestry.

Department of Agronomy

   The Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research was started their academic activities from this year. In an area of 0.5 acre Crop Cafeteria was established with 24 major field crops including cereals, millets, pulses, oilseeds, fiber, sugar, forage and tuber crops. The students are also taking to crop cafeteria during their AGR 101 and PBG 101 practical classes to expose various crops and their stages and cultivation aspects. As a part of AGR 101 syllabus students were practiced field operation like Bullock drawn country and mould board ploughing, power tiller rotavator, formation of ridges and furrows, raised bed nursery, wet nursery, sowing of rice and maize, thinning and gap filling and different methods of fertilizer applications (Plates). The laboratory of Agronomy department was equipped with instruments like seed germination chamber, seed museum (around 200 seed collection of field, horticultural and forestry species) and tools like spade, sickle, budding knife, weighing balance and shakers, pH and EC meters, sprayers (hand and power operated) mini seed drills and water measuring devices etc.

Department of Agricultural Meteorology

    Adhiyamaan college of Agriculture and Research, Department of Agricultural Meteorology was established, B-Class Agro-meteorological Observatory during 2016-17 academic year in ACAR Farm. From this department for under graduate course namely AGR 102 Fundamentals of Agro-meteorology (1+1) was offered for fist B.Sc., Agri students. In Agro-met observatory instruments like Sun shine recorder for measuring bright sun shine hours of day, ordinary and self recording rain gauge for measuring rainfall, USWB open pan evaporimeter for measuring evaporation, different depth of soil thermometer was installed for measuring soil temperature. Wind vane and cup anemometer are installed to measure wind direction and wind velocity, respectively. Single and double Stevenson screens were placed for measuring maximum and minimum air temperature and relative humidity. Its place dew is important factor which influence the crop production a dew gauge was placed in observatory to measure daily dew. During this course work students were regularly taken in to observatory and demonstrated with recording of weather elements to using different weather instruments. Everyday daily weather data are recorded and displayed in ACAR for forecasting. A detailed database is maintained for day to day weather changes.

Department of Soil Science

     Soil science is the study of soil as a natural resource on the surface of the Earth including soil formation, classification and mapping; physical, chemical, biological, and fertility properties of soils; and these properties in relation to the use and management of soils.

Soil Science Laboratory

     It is a wide laboratory, in this lab 50 students can accommodate at a stretch. In this lab there are sufficient glass wares and You have surplus equipments like Gas chromatography, Flame photometer, UV- Spectrophotometer Potentiometer, conductometer and water still. The purpose is designed to integrate lecture subject matter with hands-on experience, the laboratory primarily serves to expose students to soil and soil related environmental issues. Activities will include soil description and analysis, soil and landscape assessment, nutrient assessment and management, composting, soil system modeling and soil information and interpretation.

Department of Environmental Sciences

     The laboratory is facilitated with adequate facilities and instruments such as EC meter, pH meter, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, BOD incubator, flame photometer, Binocular microscope and other accessories. This department have adequate facilities for waste water characteristics, enumeration of microbial cultures, soil sample analysis. This department is offering three courses in different semesters for B.Sc., (Agri) courses. They are as follows:

  • ENS 101 Principles of Environmental Sciences 1+1
  • ENS 301 Environmental Pollution and Management 1+1
  • ENS 401 Climate Change and Disaster Management (2+0)

The Department focuses on the following interrelated areas of research:

  • Granite waste management,
  • Non-thermal plasma technology for air pollution control and waste water treatment,
  • Plasma technology for nanomaterials preparation and applications,
  • Recycling of industrial waste water for agriculture,
  • Vegetable market waste management,
  • Vermicomposting,
  • Environmental Impact Assessment and Monitoring,
  • Analysis in Water, Soil, Air, Vibration, Noise etc.

Apart from teaching and research, the faculty members are involved in the extension activities and consultancy services in industries, farmers and local bodies.

This Department is planning to collaborate with some foreign universities in the areas of Nanotechnology and Non-thermal plasma for environmental applications.

Department of Animal husbandry

    Animal husbandry is a unit of crop management concerned with care and management of livestock. This unit deals with the feeding, breeding, housing and health care of livestock for getting maximum benefits of the farmers.

The Unit having the following infrastructure for easy learning for B.Sc.(Agri) students.

  1. Well-equipped Veterinary Hospital
  2. Poultry Unit
  3. Piggery Unit
  4. Cattle Shed
  5. Goat Shed

Department of Foresty

     Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research is having more than 30 ha of tree plantation like Teak, White Teak, Red Sanders, Almond, Indian Kino viz. Forestry education for the agriculture students will enhance knowledge on forest trees especially on agro forestry cultivation (Agri-silviculture, Silvi-pasture, Agri-silvipasture viz.,). Students will also exposed to visit various types of forest as per the syllabus which leads to forest and wild life awareness among the young agriculture students.

Department of Agricultural Engineering

    Unit of Agricultural Engineering concerned with design, construction and improvement of farming equipment and machineries for better livelihood of the farming community.
