UNIT OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND RURAL SOCIOLOGY

              The Division of Social Sciences comprises of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture and Rural Management, Agriculture Statistics Tamil, English, Mathematics, Computer Sciences and Physical Education.

           The Divisionof Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology is located in the “B Block” of Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research. The main objective of this division is to transfer the technologies from lab to land. This department is mainly to transfer good agricultural practices and technologies to the farming community. Rural Sociology, Educational Psychology, Panchayati Raj, Social Institutions and Organizations, Leadership, Developmental Programmes to uplift the Farming Community, Methods involved in teaching farmers, Personality Development, Intelligence, Communication Skills and Recent Advances in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology are being taught by the Division. Extensive visits to villages, State Agricultural University, State Department of Agriculture, Government Institutions and Organizations, NGOs are organized for the students to learn their activities. All India Study Tour and Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) is also being offered to the final year students to expand their knowledge on Indian agricultural scenario.

           The Audio Visual Laboratory of the Division of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology is equipped with Modern Audio Visual Aids such as Video Cameras, Lightening Accessories and Editing Facility, Mixer Console, Digital Voice Recorders, Collar Microphone, DSLR Camera with Zoom, Wide Angle, Tele Photo Lens, Wireless MIC, Apple I Mac PC Model, Editing Softwares, LED TVs, DVD Players and Public Address Systems.

           The activities being carried out in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology are given hereunder.

 i) ACAR Newsletter

            ACAR Newsletter is being published from Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research for every quarter (4 issues per year) in English & Tamil.  

ii) Publication

            The activities and events of ACAR is being published in Tamil dailies.

iii) Training

            Organizing training programmes on recent advances in agriculture and allied sectors.

iv) Popular Articles

            Publishing popular articles written by the scientists of Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research in the tamil dailies.

v) Extension Literature’s

            Preparation of extension literatures viz, leaflet, folder, etc., on advances in agriculture and allied sector.

 vi) Visitors

            Accompanying the visitors in visiting the campus

vii) ACAR Magazine

            The tamil magazine named “Uzhavae Thalai” is prepared and it is under process for publishing.

vii) Other Activities

            Apart from the above, the Division is fully engaged in the preparation of Annual Reports, Student Magazine, ACAR’s Information Brochure in English and Tamil, A Compendium on Strength of ACAR, Compiling monthly reports every month and preparation of college reports whenever needed.

            Ms. J. Jeyasri, Alumni (2017 Batch) of Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research, got selected in “Vikatan Student Reporter Scheme (2019-20)” as a Student Reporter (Press Correspondent Trainee). There were three stages in selection process, viz., preliminary, written exam (main) and interview. In all the three stages, she got selected which gives laurels to the institution. In this connection, she has attended the training camp for three days in Chennai.

UNIT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS

  • Agricultural Economics unit is envisaged to provide excellent and high quality education in the field of agricultural economics, conduct policy oriented research in frontier areas covering agricultural and rural development issues.
  • The mandate of the
  • department is to facilitate the farming community with consultancy services, trainings, exhibition, etc., for economic upliftment and to widen and encourage the entrepreneurship skills among students through hands-on training and field exposure visits.
  • The major courses for under graduate programme includes AEC 101 Fundamentals of Agricultural Economics(1+1), AEC 201 Farm Management(1+1), AEC 301 Production & Resource Economics(2+1), AEC 302 Agricultural Marketing, Trade & prices and Agricultural Finance & Cooperation(2+1).
  • The unit organized Financial Awareness and Consumer Training program to the students.
  • The unit is engaged in applied, policy, and problem-solving research in agriculture and allied sectors covering various thematic areas like market, trade, finance, agri-business, livelihood, natural resource, institutions, growth and development.
  • Different research projects were carried out, covering areas like production economics, agricultural marketing and agricultural finance.
  • Currently, our faculties are involved in organizing FPOs and market related issues.
  • Separate Economics Laboratory with 45 computers is available.

Unit of Agriculture and Rural Management               

              Agriculture and Rural Management is bridge between rural agriculture society and its development in countries like India where farming is its main economic activity. Main contribution of agriculture to rural development are employment, agricultural income (Farm Profit), earnings from ancillary businesses and environmental services with effective use of scarce resources like land, labour and capital. Thus, managing agriculture and rural society is highly important. Developing countries are moving from being largely rural and agrarian to becoming urban and industrial. Thus, create jobs and livelihoods for small farmers and the landless, while producing food and raw materials for the urban economy.

             Agriculture and Rural Management will train students to be efficient in managing improved agriculture technologies leading to increased productivity and profitability of agriculture and horticulture sector. They will help the rural society to convert traditional sustainable agriculture into agribusiness through modern technologies and agricultural policies. It opens doors for students to start their carrier in multitude of industries like commercial farming, retail marketing, food processing, food production, allied farming industry and rural financing and banking. Since increasing the scale of production is only concern and most farmers  are smallholders. Hence, finding ways to link small farmers with large-scale enterprises in terms of supply chains is a challenge.

              The Unit of Agriculture & Rural Management in ACAR provides knowledge for students, to the study of opportunities for smallholder farmers to scale up their activity and increase market engagement by providing the following courses. ARM 301,ARM 451

Unit of Mathematics

              The aim of the unit is to offer enriching learning experiences to aspiring young students and ensure special talents in various domain of mathematics. They are prepared to face the interviews confidently and get attractive placements. The unit is under the vision to achieve academic excellence, develop talents as well as practical skills and include healthy attitudes through systematic and effective teaching.

         The course MAT 111 Elementary Mathematics (1+1) course is offered during the first semester. In this course the students  get familiar about permutation, combination, matrix, differential and integral calculus and they are very much familiar about linear, quadratic and exponential models, who help the students to learn about economics.

          We also Conduct Maths Refreshment course for the first years weekly thrice as Co-curriculum. This course is a bridge between basic mathematics and advanced mathematics. This course will be helpful for students moving from school mathematics to a degree level. It covers important basic concepts and formulae of basic algebra, logarithms, trigonometry, derivatives, integrations and models. It shows the correct use of various formulae.

Agricultural Statistics

               The course STA 201 Statistical Methods (1+1) course for Fourth semester. This course helps to the students to understand and apply fundamental concept of statistical applications in agriculture and allied sciences and to acquire about the theoretical concepts of data collection, graphical and diagrammatical representation of data, descriptive statistics, sampling methods, testing of hypothesis, correlation, regression, ANOVA and basic design of experiments.

           We also Conduct Maths Refreshment course for First years weekly thrice as Co-curriculum to enhance their calculation and Brainstorming skills during their leisure time.

Unit of Computer Science

                 The main goal of unit of Computer Science is to improve the students’ capacity to establish and maintain the system that will produce future leaders. Since the lifespan of the common tools and approaches used today is being shortened by consistent and quick improvements in computing technology, learning is a continual process that does not finish with the attainment of a degree. As a result, we do not try to turn our students into walking manuals for any one language or software. Instead, students are given a solid foundation in computer science, taught how to solve problems and made flexible.

                The goal is to combine academic achievement with the development of character through value-based education, which is favourable to enhance the students’ innate abilities and confidence to take on the problems of the world.

  • In the course COM 311 Agriculture Informatics (1+1) during III Year Sixth semester, students can learn about hardware, software, operating systems, networks, HTML, MS Excel, MS Access, Google Forms, programming concepts, C programming, Infocrop, Mobile App Inventor, E-Agriculture, ICT, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems, Computer Controlled Devices, IOT, Cloud Computing and Crop Calendar as well as practical knowledge in the aforementioned subjects. After completing this course, students will be familiar with how to use the internet, send emails, create charts in Excel, store data in databases using MS Access, write C programmes for real-time applications, create websites and mobile applications, and complete projects using expert systems and decision support systems, IoT and cloud computing knowledge.
  • The event titled “Digital Literacy Program” conducted by the unit of Computer Science is aimed at taking Students excel skills to the next level. Students will be able to apply complex functions within Excel to manage, manipulate, analyse and visualize data and Students will learn the basic tools used in Adobe Photoshop to create and edit images. Students will learn how to optimize images and save images in proper file formats. Students will learn colour selection and conversion as it relates to both Web and business publications.

“எங்கள் வாழ்வும் எங்கள் வளமும்

மங்காத தமிழென்று சங்கே முழங்கு” 

                  நம் எண்ணங்களை பிறருக்கு தெரிவிக்கவும், பிறருடைய  உணர்வுகளை நாம் புரிந்து கொள்ளவும் உதவுவது மொழியேயாகும். நாகரிகம் வளர வளர பேச்சி வழக்கு மொழியெல்லாம் எழுத்து வடிவம் பெற்றன. காலத்தால்  பழமையான, ஆதிகால மனிதனின் அற்புத மொழியாக தமிழ் மொழி திகழ்கிறது. காலம் பல மாறினாலும், கண்டம் பல அழிந்தாலும் அழியாத சிறப்புடைய மொழியாக தமிழ் மொழி திகழ்கிறது. இயல், இசை, நாடகம், எனும் முத்தமிழாய் வளர்ந்து, கன்னித்தமிழாய், செந்தமிழாய், வண்டமிழாய், பைந்தமிழாய், வளம் வரும் ஒரே மொழி தமிழ் மொழியாகும். எண்ணற்ற புலவர்களாலும், அரசர்களாலும் சங்கம் வைத்து  வளர்த்த ஒரே மொழி  தமிழ் மொழியாகும். தமிழின் தொன்மை, பிறமொழி தாக்கமின்மை, தாய்மை, இலக்கிய வளமை, இலக்கண செழுமை, நடுவுநிலமை, உயர்ந்த விழுமிய சிந்தனைகள, கலை இலக்கியத்தன்மை, மொழிக்கோட்பாட்டுத் தன்மை, செம்மொழிக்குரிய பண்புகள்  உலக இலக்கியங்கலில் முதன்மை பெற்றவை.  சங்க இலக்கியங்கள்  பத்துப்பாட்டு, எட்டுத்தொகை, பதினன் கிழ்கணக்கு நூல்கள் இன்றளவும் தமிழ்மொழியின் இலக்கிய வளத்திற்கு இன்பம் சேர்கின்றன. தமிழ்மொழியில் உள்ள இலக்கியங்களைப் போல வளமையான, செழுமையான இலக்கியங்கள் உலகிலுள்ள வேறெந்த  மொழியிலும் இல்லை. ஒரு மொழியின் இலக்கண வளமே பற்பல இலக்கியங்கள் படைக்க  முன்னோடியாக திகழ்வதற்கு வழிவகுக்கும். தமிழ் மொழியின் தொன்மையான இலக்கண நூல் தொல்காப்பியமாகும். எழுத்து, சொல், பொருள் ஆகிய மூன்றனுக்கும் தொல்காப்பியம் இலக்கணம் கூறுகிறது. அகத்தியரின் அகத்தியம்  ஐந்திலக்கனங்களின் அருமையை எடுத்துரைக்கிறது. நன்னுள்  தண்டியலங்காரம் சதுரகராதி  போன்ற இலக்கண  நூல்கள் தமிழ்மொழிக்கு  அணிகலன்கலாய்  அழகு  சேர்க்கின்றன.

பாடதிட்டத்தின் நோக்கம்

             இப்பாடதிட்டத்தில் இளநிலை வேளாண்மைப் பயிலும் மாணவர்களுக்குத் தமிழ் இலக்கியங்கள் வழி வேளாண்மை மற்றும் வேளாண்மைச் சார்ந்த தொழில் நுட்பங்களையும், செய்திகளையும் அறியச்செய்வதோடு, தற்கால வேளாண் தொழில்நுட்பங்களோடு பொருத்திப் பார்க்கவும் வழிவகைச் செய்கிறது. வேளாண்மைத் தவிரத் தோட்டக்கலை, வனவியல், வேளாண் பொறியியல், மனையியல் சார்ந்த கருத்துக்களையும் வெளிக்கொணர்கிறது. மேலும் வேளாண் துறைக்கு இன்றியமையாத கலைச்சொற்கள், மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, பாரம்பரிய தொழில்நுட்பங்களை அறியச்செய்வதோடு மாணவர்களின் எதிர்காலத் தேவைக்கு அடிப்படையான பேச்சுப்பயிற்சி, நேர்காணலை எதிர்கொள்ளும் வகையில் மென்திறன்களான தலைமைப்பண்பு, ஆளுமைப்பண்பு, காலமேலாண்மை ஆகியவற்றில் திறம்பெறச்செய்தல், ஆய்வுக்கட்டுரை திறனை வளர்த்தல், வேளாண்மை இதழ்கள், நூல்கள் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வை வழங்குகிறது. மேலும் கணினி வழித் தமிழில் வேளாண்செய்திகளை பதிவேற்றம், பதிவிறக்கம் செய்யும் முறைகளையும் அறியச் செய்கிறது

Unit of English

                    English course is one of the best and dedicated disciplines ceaselessly educating and energizing students with quality content. It offers a comprehensive curriculum to equip students with a sound knowledge of communication and to strengthen their language and presentation skills. The course innates and develop the sound proficiency skills of the students. It helps to conduct seminars and encourages the students to present papers with confidence.

The objectives of English Course are,

  • To enable the students, comprehend the spoken form.
  • To develop students’ ability to use English in day-to-day life and real-life situation.
  • To understand the written text and able to use skimming, scanning skills.
  • To write simple English to express ideas.

             

                 The course ENG 101 Comprehension and Communication Skills in English (1+1) which facilitates the students to develop the LSRW skills. The course includes Phonetic knowledge, textual grammar, paragraph writing, letter writing, Interview skills, Intensive and extensive listening, conversation techniques and practice, skimming and scanning, article writing, group Discussion.  ENG 103

                  The course ENG 103 Development Education (0+1) which facilitates the students of personality development. It aids the students to acquire the basic principles of learning, career development, Entrepreneurship. It also supports the students to develop the communication skills in various aspects like Interpersonal communication, transactional communication, role-play, article writing, editing, blogging and report writing. 

                   Language is primarily a spoken form. To know language means, to understand and speak the language. The department of English offers a Lingua Langue (Spoken English) ENG01 certificate course to first-year students once a week as a co-curriculum to improve their speaking and writing proficiency in advanced English, raising the students’ standard.
