The Division of Horticulture is equipped with naturally ventilated poly house for cultivation of different horticultural crops under protected condition, the propagation unit to produce mango grafted saplings, ginger cultivation and other horticultural crops are grown in well maintained shade net.
The department growing more than seven varieties (Alphonso, Sendura, Banganapalli, Imam pasant, Malliga, Neelum) of mango, citrus, fig, karonda, amla, guava and pomegranate for production and practical gaining knowledge to students in orchard.
The department established a Kitchen or Nutritional Garden to produce various nutritious vegetables and growing tropical, temperate vegetables for educational purpose.
The medicinal or herbal plants and aromatic plants are collected and established as an herbal garden with more than sixty types of herbal plants, more than fifteen aromatic plants were maintaining in herbal garden.
The department is having good collection of different types of loose flowers (Crossandra, Marigold, Barleria, Jasmine, Chrysanthemum, Nerium, Tuberose, hibiscus and bird of paradise etc.) and cut flowers (Gladiolus, Gerbera), three types of rose in open field condition are growing in flower cafeteria. Well established ornamental mother block having more than 30 types of ornamental shrubs for propagation and educational purpose for the students. The protected structure shade net highly utilized for well rooted ornamental plants for sale and landscaping purpose in the college campus.
The college is having formal style and informal style of garden with different components and well collection of different types of ornamental plants, flowering and foliage shrubs trees, climbers, water lilies and fully maintained landscape surrounding of college, the ornamental mother block established for to raise various ornamental plants. The plants are propagated by different methods and the cuttings are kept in mist chamber for rooting. The well rooted cuttings are transferred to shade net for commercial sale. The college provides good facilities for learning various practical oriented activities related to horticultural subjects to learn easily by the students.
The Unit of Food Science and Nutrition strives to provide highest quality educational experience for the students by innovatively introducing the various concepts of Food Science and Nutrition and also by equipping them with practical knowledge of the same. The department offers the course FSN 111 ‘Principles of Food Science & Nutrition'(1+1) in the second semester of first year. The course is structured in such a way that it covers all aspects of food science including Nutrition, bio-chemistry, food microbiology, food technology, food safety and consumer education. The department also opens up opportunities for the final year students to undertake research projects in different areas of food science.
The department has a well-equipped lab with a projector analytical instruments such as photo colorimeter, spectrophotometer, digital weighing balance and food processing devices that includes baking oven, fruit pulper, sugarcane juicer, cake mixer, gas stoves and a newly installed fruit crusher.
The department has been actively engaging in supporting farmers and serving the community by way of research, extension activities, community-based nutrition programmes, training programmes etc., The department also organizes events such as poster designing, cooking contest and quiz competition during special occasions such as World Food Day and National Nutrition Week to enable the students cohesively use their mind and body to bring out their talents creatively.
